Over 40 people gathered in the April Ashley exhibition in the Museum of Liverpool yesterday – 20th November – to pay their respects to all the transgendered people who have been victims of Hate Crime.
There were 238 known murders of Trans people last year – however only 60 countries collate information on Trans Hate Crime and it is believed the real figure could be much higher.
Museum Director Janet Dugdale, Bev Ayre, Development Director for Homotopia and Tracy O’Hara from Merseyside Police addressed those gathered before Penni Bassi laid a white wreath and said a few words as a member of the local Trans community who has experienced Hate Crime. She now works with the Police as a member of the Merseyside Independent Advisory Group.
